Nancy Wight MD, IBCLC is an attending Neonatologist at Children's Hospital and Mary Birch Hospital for Women, and Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California San Diego.  She graduated from medical school and did her training in Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she was chief resident. She did her fellowships in Neonatology and ECMO at UCSD Medical Center in San Diego.

As the Breastfeeding Coordinator for District IX, Chapter 3 of the American Academy of Pediatrics, she works closely with Lactation Consultants and various public and private organizations in the San Diego area to educate health care professionals, parents, and the general community about breastfeeding issues.

Dr. Wight has been a board certified lactation consultant since 1988. She has helped establish 3 hospital lactation programs and is the current secretary and committee chair for the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition, which she helped found. She lectures widely on multiple breastfeeding topics, and has had personal experience combining more-than-full-time-employment and breastfeeding.

She is currently serving on the California Breastfeeding Promotion Committee convened by the California State Department of Health Services, is a Charter Member and Board Member of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine, and received an AAP Special Achievement Award for her breastfeeding education and promotion efforts.
