You can show your support of the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition by:
- Making a monetary contribution to support Coalition activities.
- Donating your time by serving on a committee:
- Advocacy/Political Action Committee - This committee keeps the SDCBC informed of breastfeeding-related legislation and policy issues, advocates for breastfeeding at community, county government and national level meetings.
- Community Outreach Committee - This committee establishes and enhances community connections and provides breastfeeding information and promotional items at community events. Other duties include updating community display, coordinating Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Award during World Breastfeeding Week (Aug.), and media events.
- Fundraising Committee - This committee explores possible funding sources to aid in sustainability of the Coalition. Corporate sponsorships, major benefactors and other funding sources will be approached for support.
- Grant Research Committee - This committee explores possible grant sources to aid in the sustainability of the Coalition. Large, subsidiary and other grants will be sought for funding.
- Membership Committee - Supervise member database, coordinate annual membership drive, recruit new members. Update membership brochure on a yearly basis.
- Professional Outreach Committee - This committee is charged with educating physicians, nurses, public health and other health professionals through in-services, conferences, trainings, the SDCBC website and Resource Guide/newsletter distribution.
- Research/Evaluation Committee - This committee ensures the routine collection and/or coordination of breastfeeding data (initiation and duration) by the county. Current projects include coordination of the Breastfeeding Duration Study. Future projects to include coordination of Hospital Breastfeeding Services Availability Survey and survey of county health department offices for breastfeeding friendliness.
- Volunteer Coordination Committee - This committee develops volunteer infrastructure to support Coalition activities. Duties include creating volunteer program handbook and informational packet, recruiting, training and deploying volunteers.
