Call to Order: Eve Moeran, President, called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm.

CME Presentation Breastfeeding and the Late Pre-term Infant Presented by Eyla Boies, M.D.
Review and Approval of the minutes November meeting minutes approved without edit.
Treasurer's Report Dr. Murphy presented the treasurer's report. We've got about $4900 in the bank!
Political Action Carolyn Maloney will reintroduce the Breastfeeding Promotion Act. It will:
  • Amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to protect breastfeeding by new mothers
  • Provide tax incentives for businesses that establish private lactation areas in the workplace
  • Provide for a performance standard for breast pumps and
  • Provide families with a tax deduction for breastfeeding equipment.

Community Outreach - Newsletter
  • Topics for the new year were solicited:
    Mother-Mother support groups
  • Antidepressants and Breastfeeding - Phil Anderson
  • Birthplans to include breastfeeding - advanced directives for breastfeeding
ARussell - pledged to write an article.
SPagan - pledged to write an article.
Community Outreach - Other Nancy Wight listed many, many interesting conferences going on this year. Go to www.breastfeeding.org to get details.
Community Outreach - Breastfeeding Friendly Award Would like to promote the Breastfeeding Friendly Award in the media more next year. Consultants should watch for mothers that have good experiences breastfeeding at work and find out the names of the companies to that we can encourage HR to apply for the award.
Fundraising Committee New date suggested: Second Thursday in April: 4/12/07 EBoies - discuss this with Corey

2006 Achievements

  • Guidelines sent out to all hospitals supporting breastfeeding friendly guidelines
  • CHART - Hospital quality report card
  • Senate Bill 246 - Tissue bank law exception
 NWight - to set up a schedule in locations around the county.
Membership Committee
  • Due to low turnout for this meeting, voting will be done on-line.
    Annual retreat 2/3/07 10-3 at Dr. Wight's house.
 NWight - create a ballot and send it out.
NWight - send out a meeting notice regarding annual retreat.
Next General Meeting Thursday, March 8 11, 2007, 6-8PM, Navy Hospital.
