Sharp provides a collection station for mothers who wish to donate their extra breastmilk, and a distribution depot for patients who require pasteurized human milk. The Mothers' Milk Depot of Southern California is a collaborative effort of Sharp HealthCare and the Mothers' Milk Bank at Valley Medical Center, CA.
Milk collected in San Diego is shipped frozen to the Mothers' Milk Bank at Valley Medical Center for processing. Frozen, pasteurized donor milk is then shipped to Sharp Mary Birch for distribution to patients with a medical need in Southern California.
The Mothers' Milk Bank at Valley Medical Center is the only milk bank licensed in California and has provided nearly a million ounces of milk since 1974.
