Creating a Mother & Infant Friendly Restaurant

You Can Help Mothers and Infants

When mothers and infants are supported in their feeding choices, customer relations and marketability may improve. Families will feel more comfortable and welcome at your restaurant as a result of these simple steps.

The California Law States:"Not withstanding any other provision of law, a mother may breastfeed her child in any location, public or private, except the private home or residence of another, where the mother and child are otherwise authorized to be present."

In the past, it was popular to bottle-feed infants. Today you will find that more mothers are choosing to breastfeed their children. Research has shown that the risk of sickness, obesity, allergies and cancer are less for children that have been breastfed. Mothers are also at a lower risk for certain cancers after breastfeeding.

Supporting Mother's Choices

When a mother comes to your restaurant, you may ask how she will be feeding her baby. This makes it possible to provide appropriate service and support for the mother and baby.

Breastfeeding Bottle Feeding
  • Encourage mother to feed the baby when he or she acts hungry (Breastfed babies usually feed every 1-1/2 - 3 hours)

DID YOU KNOW....

  • Babies should eat when they show signs of hunger. They may be in a growth spurt and need to eat more frequently.
  • You can create interest in your business by providing simple gifts for the baby ("I eat at Mom's" bibs, etc.).
  • Mother-Baby friendly restaurants are becoming popular in the Inland Empire.
