  3. Other Business
    • It was announced that Jeri Zevenbergen, Aida Rodriguez and Donna Erlewine passed their Lactation Educator Test.
    • Parkview Hospital has a BF Clinic in their hospital. It was decided that the group will send a letter to the CEO of Parkview and to Community Hospital to congratulate them on the job they have done with the BF Clinic.

  4. Prop 10 Updates by Laurie Haessly and Dora Barilla

    • Riverside County WIC--Riverside already has their 4 BF representatives in place and ready to start. There will be one in the Desert, Mid County, Riverside, Temecula and Riverside County Regional Medical Center. Riverside is planning to give a postcard to each mother to let her know of the services now being offered to her. They have displays for doctors' exam room to remind the mother to ask her doctor about BF. Riverside is currently partnering with the Healthy Beginnings in Desert JFK Hospital. They are hoping to target the behaviors of doctors. It was mentioned that the Narrowcasting representative for Riverside will present to the group in January.

    • San Antonio Hospital--San Antonio's contract was approved November 20th. They will have a 3 tier program. A call will be made to each mother 24-48 hours after she is discharged and if she is having any problems the caller will have her come in for help. They are currently looking for lactation specialists. San Antonio Hospital's staff will all be sent over for the lactation training. Nurses will be paid aside from their duties when doing the help line. Currently their marketing section is working on a name for their program.

Dr. Smith mentioned to the group that the Labbok Chart will be scanned, copied and sent to all the members of the coalition.

    • Loma Linda--Loma Linda's Negotiation session will be in a week. They are hoping to get the contract signed and ready to start in approx. a month.

  5. WBFW 2001

In past meetings the group discussed having a Photo Contest for World Breastfeeding Week in August 2001. Nancy has spoken with the President of the Redlands Photo Club. The president is willing to take this in front of their board for approval. They would be taking on all responsibilities. Photographers who are club members would be doing the photos. Any photographers wanting to join the club must pay a fee of $20.00. Parkview and Redlands Hospital are willing to display the photos at their facilities. The photo club would do duplication of the photos for each hospital. The contest would begin March of 2001 and end June of 2001. Nancy will be out for awhile and asked to have volunteers in her absence to head up this project. The volunteers are as follows: Lori Wilber (Coordinator to work with the president of the club), Debbie Lugg (in charge of the prizes for Mothers and Photographers). One more volunteer is needed to work with the newspapers to get an article in. Dr. Smith mentioned that as Lori Wilber might be unable to make all the BF meetings, he will work with her on bringing back any information. Lori requested a name of the contacts for the Hospitals. They are as follows: Community Hospital (Joyce Heitmeier), Riverside County Regional Medical Center (Laurie Haessly), Loma Linda University Medical Center (Donna Erlewine), St. Mary's (Debbi Abrams) and Parkview Hospital (Pam Hastings). Nancy stated that one recruiting possibility is to put information in the pay stub envelopes at hospitals. The group will discuss more at the next meeting.

  6. Organization of the Coalition
  7. Tim Johnson spoke to the group about becoming a 501 ( c ) corporation. He discussed procedures and benefits to the group as a whole. The group was asked to think about the benefits and this will be discussed at the next meeting.
