![]() San Diego, California, August, 1999 - In celebration of World Breastfeeding Week 1999, the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition (SDCBC) will present its fourth annual Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace Awards to Qualcomm and to Ocean Beach People's Organic Foods
Market.
Thirty-two employers were considered for the Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace Award, including the top 25 employers in San Diego County. The Coalition chose to honor both a large and small employer with this award this year due to the level of interest and enthusiasm. Qualcomm was selected as the large employer, and Ocean Beach People's Organic Foods Market was selected as the small employer. Both Qualcomm and Ocean Beach Peoples Organic Foods Market were chosen to be this year's recipients of the Breastfeeding-Friendly
Workplace Award because of their commitment to support their employees who are breastfeeding mothers via a worksite lactation program. This includes providing support before the baby is born with prenatal breastfeeding information for employees and their partners. Lactation education, counseling and support continue as long as the employee is breastfeeding. When the employee returns to work, Breastfeeding friendly rooms equipped with a comfortable couch allow female employees who are expressing their milk to do so in a private relaxing environment.
